Soup Love

This was the week. It was time to cull the Christmas decorations. When I opened up our 43 Christmas decor bins and boxes in December, I didn't use everything we had. It was very apparent that I needed to box up some items for Goodwill when it came time to pack it all back up again. (OK, it wasn't really 43, but it sure felt like 43!) We got busy with other things last weekend, so I didn't get to it. Since I knew I could delay no longer, the plan was to begin in earnest on Monday morning. Naturally, my head decided NOT to cooperate by giving me a whopper migraine, and my lower back decided to join in on the fun off and on throughout the week. But, during the times when I was functioning this week, I was somehow able to accomplish a lot. I still have a bit more to do today, but I'm almost there. As the Christmas items are organized and put away, the "winter" decor is coming out, but I'll tell you more about that in the coming week. (Think snowballs!)

January always means that Steve wants to get back to healthier eating. We're pretty much sick of sweets and huge meals after making it through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've told you before that we're "soup people." I like making it and we both like eating it. Steve LOVES having a nice salad for dinner with a bowl of homemade soup. I had some leftover ham (with the bone) in the freezer from Christmas, so I made a big pot of bean soup on Wednesday. I buy different kinds of dry beans and split peas and mix them all together in a sealed container. We like the variety and it makes a very pretty bowl of soup. I chopped up some onion, celery, carrots, potatoes and a huge sweet potato to add to the pot. Then, I opened the spice drawer and tossed in all the usual suspects. Wow, that ham made some good soup!

That gave me the idea of adding the following to my winter decor.

I printed it as a 5x7 on white cardstock and slapped it into a frame. If you want to print one for yourself, click on the following link:

Hot Soup

Next up:  turkey noodle!

All is well in the Keweenaw.
