Why Are We Cut Off?

Cut Off is simply a play on words.

First, we own property on the Eagle Harbor Road in Keweenaw County. This road is also known locally as the Eagle Harbor Cut Off Road and the Cut Off Road.

Secondly, when we made it known that we wanted to move to this area, some people thought we were crazy - like we were talking about moving to the North Pole - wanting to cut ourselves off from civilization!

We aren't actually cut off from civilization. If we want to visit Red Lobster*, Menards or Lowes, we'll have to make the 3 hour drive to Marquette. But, we do have gas stations, grocery stores, hospitals and even a few fast food eateries within 35 miles of our property. We don't have cable TV, but we do have cell phone service and high speed internet, so we know what's going on in the world. We are, however, cut off from the hectic pace, traffic and crime of more populated areas.  That's a good thing.

*Why would we want to visit Red Lobster anyway?  We can get fresh Lake Superior fish in most local restaurants and fish markets!
