Sunday Reflections - 18 Years!

"I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever." (Ecclesiastes 3:14)

18 years ago today!

I'm so thankful the Lord brought us together. Our marriage has been such a wonderful gift. Every single day with this man brings me so much happiness, and I can't imagine being on this path with anyone else.

Our house is sitting here now, and I'm currently looking out at these same trees all decked out in their autumn beauty - praising God and acknowledging that I'm very blessed.

All is well in the Keweenaw.

13 Years!

13 years and we're still giggling our way through life together!
Thank you for all the happiness you've added to my days!
I love you with all my heart!

Sunday Reflections

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.

So Blessed, So Thankful

10 years today!

I've been married to "Mr. Perfect For Me" for 10 years!

He's the wonderful man who carved "SH + JH" into the bark of one of our Keweenaw trees when I was still JW. As the tree aged and the years ticked by, the message of love he carved into that bark was starting to become illegible. That wouldn't do, so he spent hours carving a new sign on a piece of wood as a surprise for me down in Saginaw one deer season. It's now affixed to the same spot on the same tree between our Keweenaw house and barn.

We've been talking about our wedding day lately - how we came out to this property with our guests that day for photographs - and how we were dreaming about living here. It took a while, but we're here! And there's no place we would rather be.

I am so blessed and so thankful to be spending my life with Steve. He was well worth waiting for, because the Lord knew he really was perfect for me.

Number Eight - Summary

Hmmmm. What do you do when your 8th wedding anniversary falls on October 1st, you love going for rides in the Keweenaw and you love looking at fall colors? You go on a Keweenaw color tour, of course! No fancy or expensive anniversary plans are required to make us happy! We enjoy simple things and loved our day together.
We hopped in the Traverse and took the back way out of Calumet.

We drove down Cliff Drive (past the cliffs) to check out the color there, but it was nowhere near peak, so we headed toward Gratiot Lake. That road had more color.

When you get your first glimpse of Gratiot Lake from the road, you can also see Lake Superior in the distance. Of course, that's exactly when my camera batteries decided to die, but I had extra ones with us. By the time I got them changed, this was the shot I took.

That thin sliver of blue just above the tree line in the distance is Lake Superior. Gratiot Lake is to the right of the pole. We continued on down the hill. . .

and turned left onto the road leading to the public boat launch.

We found a bit of fall color at Gratiot Lake.

Isn't it peaceful there?

Back on the road - I asked Steve to stop, and I got out to take one more shot of the lake.

Just a little bit further down the road, we saw this.

Twins - but we were only able to photograph one. We headed over to Ten Foot Falls next.

Then, on to Eagle River.

We made a quick stop at The Jampot (bakery). Oh no! No lemon cream cheese muffins in stock! We had to settle for cookies. There was hardly any fall color as we made our way between Eagle River and Copper Harbor on Hwy. 26 along the coast. We couldn't resist stopping in front of our wedding location in Eagle Harbor and reminiscing about that wonderful day (and all the wonderful days since).

We noticed a freighter out on Lake Superior - about as close to the shore as you're ever able to see one.

Time to head up Brockway Mountain. . .

and take some pictures from the top. Wow! It was windy up there!

Then, back down again. . .

and we were off to the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor for our 8th anniversary meal. I know I showed this to you not long ago, but wasn't the view from our table pretty?

We decided to do the circle tour and leave Copper Harbor via Hwy. 41.

We made a brief stop at Lake Medora for a photo. . .

and continued down Hwy. 41.

I know! Lots of green yet, right? We stopped at the property to check on the progress the crew made that day. They were starting on the roof shingles, and we were excited to see the color on the roof - even if the trees weren't at full color.

It was another lovely day for us in the Keweenaw. We're continually thankful that we're living in a place we love so much. It's such a blessing to see the beauty of God's creation all around us, and we're especially blessed to be here together.

All is well in the Keweenaw.

Shingles!

When Steve mentioned shingles at church on Wednesday night, two of the ladies thought he was talking about the painful, contagious rash caused by the chickenpox virus. He was actually talking about the progress on our roof - a good thing. I've had those other shingles - not a good thing.

We had a great 8th anniversary on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day. I'll try to write a post about it within the next 3-4 days. In the meantime, here's one of the photos we snapped that day from Brockway Mountain.

Still a lot of green around here, but there are patches of brilliant color in some spots. We've had lots of rain and wind since early Thursday morning, and it's supposed to continue through tomorrow. I'm not sure what the color situation will be like by Monday.

I updated the "CONSTRUCTION - Photo Log" tonight, so check it out. We have quite a bit of color on our property already.

7th Anniversary

It was a bit hazy and about 10 degrees cooler today than it was 7 years ago, but it was still a beautiful day in the Keweenaw.  We took the Vette out of the nursery and drove further up into the peninsula for our annual Keweenaw Color Tour.  The tip of the peninsula and the areas closer to Lake Superior don't change as quickly, so the colors are actually more vibrant south of us right now.  We always like to document the view on Brockway Mountain on October 1st, so here it is.

The card Steve gave me today said,

"I love looking back to where we began, seeing us as we were at the beginning, then thinking about all the memories we've made to bring us to where we are today. . .
I love anticipating the days ahead of us, wondering what we'll find in each other and in ourselves before another year has slipped away. . .
But, best of all, I love being with you where we are today - together writing the pages we'll remember tomorrow."

Didn't know he was so romantic, did you?  Thanks, honey, for 7 wonderful years!
