Snowballs

When God has blessed you to live in a place that provides you with this kind of view much of the year. . .

you wouldn't think you would need to add any snow decor to your interior. Right?

Nope, I just HAD to make some snowballs. . . of the non-melting variety.

For this project, I purchased a skein of Bernat Pipsqueak yarn.

This yarn is usually used for making baby blankets; hence the adorable baby on the label.

I love the color name - whitey white!

The only other thing needed for this project is a plastic grocery bag or a small trash bag - preferably white. Now, just wad up the plastic bag - into a ball. . .

and wrap the yarn around - and around - and around - and around it - until it's completely covered. Cut the yarn and simply tuck the loose end under a few of the "wraps" to secure it. No hot glue required.

Very fast and easy. Now, if you're addicted to the process, go ahead and make some more. Throw them in a bowl - or on a tray - or inside a cake dome - or have a snowball fight with your spouse. They won't hurt and they're guaranteed not to melt.

I purposely varied the size a bit by scrunching up the plastic bag a little tighter on some.

You could do something similar by covering styrofoam balls, but why spend the extra money when you probably already have a stash of plastic bags on hand?

I'll be back again this week to show you what I did with the rest of the yarn in that skein.

All is well (and whitey white) in the Keweenaw.

  1. The realistic look of your snowballs caught my eye at the Share your Cup party and I just had to pop over to see how you made them. I would have never guessed white yarn! Like you, snow is abundant where I live but having the non-melting variety as part of my indoor winterscape would be perfect. Pinning to bookmark and share :)

    1. Thanks! I especially like that the size is so easy to vary by using plastic bags as the base.
