30 in a Week

We had 20 in 4, but we've now had 30 in a week! Yes, 30 inches of snow in the last week - bringing our season total up to a respectable 252". Unfortunately, most of the snow we received in the last week wasn't the nice fluffy powder we see most of the winter. It was wet and heavy.

Here's how things looked when we backed out of the garage to run some errands on Monday afternoon.

To put that in perspective, our garage doors are 9 footers, the garage sits 7 steps lower than the house and we've had 2 unusual lengthy thaws! (Yes, my DIY hula hoop Christmas wreath IS still hanging outside. We keep forgetting to take it down. Hey, it still looks like Christmas, right!)

Here's Tuesday:

Tuesday - after the storm:

Icy fingers:

I don't remember seeing this before - snow on top of the snowstick.

Yesterday morning:

The sun is shining again today and everything looks lovely, but it's cold - just 14° at the moment.

One last shot today. Mr. Cut Off and his buddy, Marty, took our snowmobiles for a ride the other day. If you've ever been on top of Brockway Mountain in the summer or fall, here's what it looks like in the winter. I'll show you more photos of their trip out to the tip of the Keweenaw in an upcoming post.

And. . . I gotta give Marty props for being man enough to drive my purple and teal Polaris Indy 440!

All is well in the Keweenaw.

  1. Looks beautiful up there. We have absolutely no snow down here in SW Michigan right now. All the ice is off the lake. Been a crazy winter down here.

    1. From what I understand, it's been a crazy winter in most areas this year. We're bracing ourselves for another crazy 3-day warm spell starting tomorrow. It was gorgeous here today with a bright sapphire blue sky, not a cloud in sight, and the snow was glistening like diamonds. Love days like this!
