We have been noticing quite a few hummingbirds through our sliding doors recently, so Steve dug out the hummingbird feeder last Thursday.
He thought he would just stick it in the dirt (where the deck will be), and see if we could attract them to the feeder. As he walked away, he turned to look at it, and there was a little hummer buzzing around it already. It was still empty; I hadn't even mixed up their syrup yet!
It took about 20 minutes for the little guy to return after Steve filled it, and we've enjoyed watching him and a few others ever since.
Cut to today: I was sitting near the sliding doors this morning when one of the little hummers accidentally flew into the window. It must have knocked him a bit senseless, as he started to fly in a really wild pattern - back and forth - back and forth - rapidly in front of the door - probably about 20 times before landing on the ground. He sat there motionless for a few minutes, then flew up onto the feeder and started eating. Whew! I've noticed him out there several more times today, so he must be feeling OK now.
Anyway, I grabbed the camera and snapped a few photos for you. Enjoy!
All is well in the Keweenaw.
P.S. Actually, that hummingbird is a female. No wonder it hit the window - crazy lady driver!
