Sunday Reflections

Our Barred Owl has made several appearance in the past week. This beautiful bird hangs out on tree branches near our house - seemingly indifferent to everything happening around it. We've seen him (or her) sit there for up to 2 hours in the early evening - rarely moving - just the occasional turn of the head. Such a patient creature!

For my Palm Sunday verses, I chose these out of Matthew 20. Jesus once again foretold His disciples of His death and resurrection as they were about to travel to Jerusalem together for the last time. He told them exactly what was about to happen. Could He have said it any more clearly? It was common knowledge that Jesus had made these claims, hence the guards placed at the tomb. Yet, His disciples were still surprised when His tomb was empty!

All is well in the Keweenaw.

  1. Sitting and thinking about this made me realize, I think I would have been surprised as well. So very grateful Jesus still does the surprising and amazing today. Happy Palm Sunday!

    1. It's hard to imagine that the disciples were told what was coming and were still surprised at the resurrection of Jesus - and they had previously witnessed Him performing miracles and raising others from the dead. Of course, they had never seen anyone raise Himself from the dead! You're right - we would have been surprised as well.

  2. I love stories of the disciples density—-because I would be just like them! It’s a good thing Jesus loves me MO MATTER WHAT!

    1. Density! So true! After all the promises in God's Word - after all the times the Lord has proven Himself in His care of me - and all the prayers He has answered - I'm still often surprised when He answers prayer.

  4. So beautiful...thank you for sharing. As an adult, I am amazed at home many 'warnings' Jesus gave the Disciples and still they did not see.
And I love your Barred Owl. I had the chance to work with one at the zoo where I a teacher. They are such wonderful creatures. Do you ever get to hear the call? Our Barred Owl hardly called.

    1. Yes, our Barred Owl is quite vocal! My husband was outside the other day when he/she hooted - my husband replied doing his best owl imitation - and the owl hooted back! So funny! After we went to bed Friday night, we heard the owl hooting outside.

  5. Can you believe that they were still surprised? For some reason this gives me so much hope. I am continually surprised at the wonders of our God and if they were surprised even though they knew him personally, then there must be hope for me.

  6. What a beautiful picture! I have yet to see an owl in the wild. I do have the privilege of seeing a snowy owl every night and that indeed is a sight to behold!

Thanks so much for sharing this Scripture verse and your insights. Too many times I am surprised at an answer to prayer. Praising God for His patience and love for me.

    Blessings,

  7. Who can understand God's ways!?! They are so beyond us and past finding out! The disciples probably didn't believe Jesus meant what He said, literally! Thanks for this reminder, Julie. Blessings to you.

    1. And I'm sure the disciples didn't want to take Him literally when He said He was going to die either. Blessings back!
