Green & White

I'm interrupting my Land of Lincoln series to bring you this short post today. Things are definitely "greening up" in the Keweenaw. This was our view as we backed out of the garage on Sunday morning. Yes, it was raining.

You can see that we're starting to get something that kind of (sort of) resembles a lawn.

As we made our way down Hwy 41, we noticed more green had popped out along the road - both on the ground and in the trees.

That made us hopeful that summer would actually arrive at some point!

Just so we didn't get too excited, here's something that brought us back to reality. Look at what Steve photographed in back of our barn after dinner last night.

Could it be? Really?

Uh huh. SNOW! Actual snow. The kind that falls out of the sky.

White.

Unmelted.

Snow.

Still on the ground.

On June 1st.

Yet, we somehow have faith that summer is coming.

Eventually!

All is well in the Keweenaw.

P.S. I'll be back with the 2nd post in my Land of Lincoln series on Monday.

  1. Hi Julie, how do you keep the bears from bothering your grill? Here in the mountains of NC we have lots of problems with black bears. We really enjoy your pictures! Thanks, Bev

    1. It's probably just dumb luck so far, as hubby saw bear scat when cutting wood for next winter yesterday. He had just pulled the grill out of the garage the day before that photo was taken, but we usually leave it in that spot all summer. Haven't had a bear go after it there YET, but they will sometimes get the bird feeders on the other end of the house. When we were clearing trees on the property and beginning construction, the bears went after our small portable grills when they were accidentally left out. Hubby would usually find the grate nearby - licked completely clean - but one disappeared for good!

  2. I can't believe you have snow!! It has been crazy hot here in California....it has cooled into the upper 80's for the weekend though. We don't get snow where I live....ever. But a two hour drive will get you to the snow, so that's not too bad. Have a great weekend Julie! XOXO

    1. I suspect the snow left in that pile may be gone today; we haven't checked. I must have been in an especially optimistic mood, as I spent the afternoon potting flowers!
