Big & Little

"Giving thanks always for all things unto God
and the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ"
Ephesians 5:20

I was sitting here this morning having my coffee and devotions in front of the Christmas tree feeling very thankful for so many things - big things & little things.

We had a late evening trip to the ER in Calumet yesterday. Steve cut his thumb on the table saw while making more trim for the house. It's not a severe wound - mostly just a slice - but there is a tiny chunk missing just wide enough and deep enough that it was going to take a while to heal if we continued to bandage it ourselves. Better to have it closed up so he didn't have to worry about getting it wet and bumping it for the next few weeks. The ER doc cleaned it well and glued the flesh back together. Considering how much Steve has used his table saw and other power tools on this construction project, it's amazing he hasn't hurt himself until now, but he always tries to be extremely careful. So, I'm thankful today that Steve still has all 10 fingers. God's protection is a big thing.

I'm also thankful for a little thing - our Christmas tree. It's not little - it's 9 feet tall - but in the grand scheme of things, a Christmas tree may seem pretty insignificant. Still, I'm thankful because it's another one of those screamin' deals the Lord has given us in the last few years. I dreamed about having a larger tree for the great room, and we saw this tree at Walmart after Christmas 2 years ago. We weren't planning to buy a Christmas tree that day, but it was the only 9-footer they had left in stock - pre-lit for $40. I said $40. Yes, $40! I told you it was a screamin' deal! We snatched it up!

Thank you, Lord, for the big & little.

All is well in the Keweenaw.
