Number Eight - Summary

Hmmmm. What do you do when your 8th wedding anniversary falls on October 1st, you love going for rides in the Keweenaw and you love looking at fall colors? You go on a Keweenaw color tour, of course! No fancy or expensive anniversary plans are required to make us happy! We enjoy simple things and loved our day together. 

We hopped in the Traverse and took the back way out of Calumet.

We drove down Cliff Drive (past the cliffs) to check out the color there, but it was nowhere near peak, so we headed toward Gratiot Lake. That road had more color.

When you get your first glimpse of Gratiot Lake from the road, you can also see Lake Superior in the distance. Of course, that's exactly when my camera batteries decided to die, but I had extra ones with us. By the time I got them changed, this was the shot I took.

That thin sliver of blue just above the tree line in the distance is Lake Superior. Gratiot Lake is to the right of the pole. We continued on down the hill. . . 

and turned left onto the road leading to the public boat launch.

We found a bit of fall color at Gratiot Lake.

Isn't it peaceful there?

Back on the road - I asked Steve to stop, and I got out to take one more shot of the lake.

Just a little bit further down the road, we saw this.

Twins - but we were only able to photograph one. We headed over to Ten Foot Falls next.

Then, on to Eagle River.

We made a quick stop at The Jampot (bakery). Oh no! No lemon cream cheese muffins in stock! We had to settle for cookies. There was hardly any fall color as we made our way between Eagle River and Copper Harbor on Hwy. 26 along the coast. We couldn't resist stopping in front of our wedding location in Eagle Harbor and reminiscing about that wonderful day (and all the wonderful days since).

We noticed a freighter out on Lake Superior - about as close to the shore as you're ever able to see one.

Time to head up Brockway Mountain. . .

 

and take some pictures from the top. Wow! It was windy up there!

Then, back down again. . . 

 

 

and we were off to the Harbor Haus in Copper Harbor for our 8th anniversary meal. I know I showed this to you not long ago, but wasn't the view from our table pretty?

We decided to do the circle tour and leave Copper Harbor via Hwy. 41.

 

We made a brief stop at Lake Medora for a photo. . .

and continued down Hwy. 41.

I know! Lots of green yet, right? We stopped at the property to check on the progress the crew made that day. They were starting on the roof shingles, and we were excited to see the color on the roof - even if the trees weren't at full color.

It was another lovely day for us in the Keweenaw. We're continually thankful that we're living in a place we love so much. It's such a blessing to see the beauty of God's creation all around us, and we're especially blessed to be here together.

All is well in the Keweenaw.
